Adhere to restrictions. Don't rush recovery; getting back to the basics may take time. Be sure you have family and friends to assist with strenuous activities. Not lifting heavy objects or straining are important for the care of stitches. Normal activities should not be resumed for several weeks.

Wash the incision daily. If soap is used, be sure to use a mild product, though clean water alone should suffice. Keeping the area clean and dry will help reduce the likelihood of infection.

Pat the incision area dry after washing. Rubbing or harsh care of the site will cause pain and irritation. Use a soft cotton towel or clean washcloth.
