How to Make Homemade Cough Syrup for Dogs

If your dog has come down with a cough it is most likely because he has just come home from a stay in a kennel. Kennel cough is a virus that is very common and highly contagious. You don't want to see your dog suffer any longer than you have to. It is a great idea to begin a homemade cough syrup regimen until you can get your beloved dog to the vet for examination.

Instructions

Things You'll Need

• Honey
• Lemonade
• Sugar
• Pot
• Measuring spoon

1. Pour 1/4 cup of lemonade in a pot and warm it up on the stove.

2. Add 1 tsp. of sugar to the pot and stir until the sugar is dissolved.

3. Add 1 tsp. of honey to the pot and stir.

4. Give your dog 2 tsp. of this homemade cough syrup once every 4 hours.

5. Visit a vet as soon as you get a chance to make sure your dog's cough is not a symptom of a more serious illness.

Tips & Warnings

• Take off your dog's collar, which can constrict the throat and cause the coughing to get worse.

• Do not give your dog any medication that contains acetaminophen. It is extremely dangerous for dogs.
