How to Make Scrabble Tile Jewelry

Scrabble tile jewelry is one of the newest trends in make-it-yourself jewelry fads. It's so popular because it's so easy, even a child can make them, with adult supervision. This jewelry craft has become the theme of birthday parties, wedding showers and women's church groups. After purchasing a few supplies and learning a few steps, you'll be on your way to making uncountable numbers of scrabble tile jewelry pieces.

Things You'll Need

• Scrabble tile
• Decorative paper
• Jewelry bail
• Craft glue
• Mod Podge
• Diamond glaze
• Super glue
• Craft knife
• Scissors
• Metal file
• Paint brushes

Instructions

1. Purchase your supplies. Gather old Scrabble tiles or purchase them. They can be found at craft stores and also on the internet at Etsy and eBay. Search out paper for your tiles. It can be decorative scrapbook paper, Washi paper, gift wrap or recycled cards, to name a few. You'll also need craft glue, Mod Podge, Diamond Glaze, Super Glue and jewelry bails.

2. Trace around a scrabble tile onto the backside of your paper with a light pencil mark. Cut the paper slightly larger than the tracing marks.

3. Brush craft glue onto the back side of the cutout paper with a paintbrush. Place it on the back of the scrabble tile so that the letter will be against the skin when the pendant is worn. Use a popsicle stick or other small flat object smooth out any air bubbles by brandishing over the top of the paper. Wait 15 minutes for drying.

4. Turn the scrabble tile face down on your work area. With a craft (utility) knife, gently cut the excess paper by slicing around the outside of the tile.

5. File the paper around the tile, on the front side, so that it is smooth and flush with the tile edge.

6. Seal the scrabble tile jewelry piece by brushing on a layer of Mod Podge. Let it dry for 15 minutes.

7. Apply a dot of Diamond Glaze to the center of the tile. Using a paint brush, spread the glaze over the top of the tile, being careful not to go over the sides. Let dry for at least five hours before handling the scrabble tile jewelry piece.

8. Mark the center-top of the backside of the scrabble tile. Using a drop of Super Glue, attach the jewelry bail over the mark. Your scrabble tile jewelry piece is ready to attach to a bracelet or a ribbon, chain or beaded string for a necklace.

Tips & Warnings

• The paint brushes used should wash out easily with soap and water. However, don't let them dry before cleaning up. Scrabble tiles make great photo pendants. Just follow the directions, except use a small photo in place of the paper.
