How to Make Paint Spatter With an Airbrush

Airbrush painting can create various beautiful effects. It is difficult, however, to produce something as simple as splatters with an airbrush gun because it sprays so delicately and smoothly. With some movement tricks, you can easily splatter paint onto a canvas with an airbrush gun.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the airbrush gun approximately 6 inches away from the surface. Cock your wrist back as far as it will go.

    • 2

Flick your wrist forward toward the surface while pressing the airbrush trigger, sending the paint onto the canvas. The force from the flicking movement will splatter the paint onto the surface in dots.

    • 3

Use different movements and more space if you want to splatter a larger area. Step back from the surface and turn to the side, making your shoulders perpendicular to the surface. Spin on one heel while pressing the trigger to shoot paint from the airbrush. As you spin toward the surface, keep your arm straight. Sweep from one foot to the other and cover the entire length of your painting area.

Dip your fingers in water and flick it at the paint. You can also toss handfuls of water onto the paint if there is a large amount. The splatters will drip down the surface and leave paint in their trail.
