Reboot Your Cell Phone for Better Reception

With poor reception being cited as the Number One reason that consumers switch cell-phone service providers, it's no wonder that users have tried numerous ways to boost that reception. Providers have developed entire ad campaigns based on the idea of increasing cell-phone reception. If you experience occasional loss of reception, however, there is no need to panic. A simple reboot of your phone may be all the solution you need.

Instructions

    • 1

Close out any applications or games that you have open on your cell phone and return to the main screen.

    • 2

Turn off your cell phone. The method of doing this varies based on the phone. Most can be turned off by holding a button on the top for a few seconds; some require you to confirm the power shut-off by touching the screen or another button on the keyboard.

    • 3

Let your cell phone stay off for about 30 seconds. This will ensure that the cell phone does, in fact, turn off completely, and that the signal refreshes itself.

    • 4

Turn your cell phone back on. Depending on your cell phone, the button to do this will vary, but it is usually located at the top right-hand side of the phone.

    • 5

Wait 30 seconds for the cell phone to start up and refresh its signal before making any calls.

Tips & Warnings

  • Turn your cell phone off at least once a day to make sure that its computer has a chance to reboot itself and refresh the signal.
