Instructions

To hang your palladium curtains, you will first need an arched rod. Some stores sell arched curtain rods, but as you will probably guess, arched windows come in different sizes. Unfortunately, arched curtain rods do not. You can, however, purchase flexible curtain rods that will work with just about any palladium window (see links in Resources).

Make a template of your palladium window. It is most important to get the curve of the window right so that you can cut the fabric correctly. Cut a piece of paper (from a roll) and tape it to the window frame, close to the window. Using a crayon, trace the shape of the window's curve. Also make a mark on the window frame where your curve ended. You will need to measure the remainder of the length of the window.

Use your template and window measurements to create your pattern for the curtains. You will need to cut the template into four vertical pieces. Spread the pieces out to twice the width of the window and connect the pieces and insert strips of paper in between. Use this to draw a new template. Add an extra 3 inches at the top to make a pocket for the rod. One half of each template will make each window panel.

Cut out your new window pattern on sheer fabric. Palladium windows look best when some light is allowed to shine through. Opaque curtains can be used; sheer is preferred.

Hem the sides and bottoms of the window panels and make a pocket at the top to put the rod through. You will also want to make or purchase simple tie backs because palladium curtains are difficult to open and close at the rod.
