How to Write a Check as a Wedding Gift

Weddings can be quite expensive and not all parents cover the costs of their child's wedding. A wedding also signifies the start of the couple's lives together. It is a great idea to give the couple money as a wedding gift. They are sure to need it, and will be grateful not to receive a third toaster. There are a few things you need to know about writing a check as a wedding gift.

Instructions

1. Decide how much money you have to give to the bride and groom. You should not give so much that you are hurting financially. You also don't want to give only $10 when you have more. The bride and groom will appreciate whatever you decide to give, but gifts of more than $50 are appropriate.

2. Write the check out to the groom. If you want to write a check to the bride who is changing her name to the groom's name, you will need to write the check in her maiden name or she may have trouble cashing it. It takes a few weeks to get your name changed, and you can't do it until after the wedding.

3. Add numerical amount in the box and then write the amount out on the line under the Pay to line.

4. Date the check with the date of the wedding. You should do this even if you write the check out ahead of time.

5. Sign the check.

6. Write something like "Congratulations" in the Memo section of the check. Any personal message to the bride and groom can go there.

7. Place the check in a wedding card and seal shut. Write the name of the bride and groom on the front of the card and place on the designated gift table at the wedding. You can also mail the check to the home where the couple will reside upon returning from the honeymoon. Yet another option is to mail the card and check to the bride's mother if she lives in the same town and can easily deliver the card and check to her daughter after the honeymoon.
