Understand AAA membership benefits. Since there is such a wide variety of benefits available, study the AAA website so you will be familiar with all the benefits and services that interest you. AAA is split up by regional locations and offers benefits and discounts that are focused in your local area. Additionally, there are national benefits and discounts on dining, shopping, entertainment and travel.

Choose the right membership for your needs. AAA offers three levels of membership to fit different levels of road assistance that is needed. The AAA Classic Membership is the most basic membership. AAA Plus Membership has the same benefits as the Classic, plus additional offerings. The Premier Membership offers the highest level of roadside assistance, for those needing that level of service.

Sign up for membership. Once you have decided on the level of membership that is right for you, sign up online. Go to the AAA website, where you will be asked for your zip code and transferred to your regional AAA website. Choose the link for membership and complete the application. You will be able to print out a temporary membership card that you can use until you receive your permanent card.

Take advantage of AAA benefits. Keep your membership card with you at all times. You will be able to use it for roadside assistance, in any car you drive or ride in. Review the AAA website for your area for updated discount and savings offerings. New restaurants, stores and offers are added frequently. You can also order maps and travel books from the website.
