Instructions

    • 1

Get your ingredients. Regular cake mix works fine in a toaster oven, as does any of your own special cake recipes. The only change is the size of the pans you will use. Instead of one large cake pan, batter can be divided into about four mini cake pans. Mini cake pans are available at home and kitchen supply stores.

Prepare your oven and pans. Preheat the toaster oven to 325 degrees F, letting it warm up for at least 10 minutes. Spray your mini cake pans with a nonstick cooking spray.

    • 3

Mix the cake batter. Prepare the batter according to package directions, or use your own recipe. Pour the mixed batter into the pans. The batter should fill the bottom two-thirds of the pan, leaving a little room to rise.

    • 4

Bake. Keep the pans in the toaster oven for about 20 minutes. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of the cake. When the toothpick comes out clean, it's done.

    • 5

Cool and serve. Let the cakes cool for at least 10 minutes. Serve them by flipping them out of the pans and onto cake plates or leaving them in the pan and removing cut pieces with a spatula.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have an exceptionally large batch of batter or very small cake pans, you may need to use more than four pans. If you are using the smallest size pans, check the cake for doneness after 15 minutes. If you don't have a toaster oven with a thermostat control, get one or get a mini oven thermometer that lets you test the temperature before you try to bake a cake in it.
