Instructions

    • 1

Trace around the opening of the tin can onto the card stock and set your tracing aside for later.

    • 2

Place the tin can on the center of the foam plate with the opening facing down.

    • 3

Begin to generously cover the tin can with cotton balls by gluing the cotton balls around the entire surface area of the tin can. Make the snowman fluffy and fat with cotton balls.

    • 4

Wad the newspaper into a tight ball that's the appropriate size for a snowman's head.

    • 5

Place a generous amount of glue on the top of the cotton ball-covered tin can and glue the newspaper ball to the top of the snowman's body.

    • 6

Glue more cotton balls to the snowman's head in the same fashion as you covered the tin can.

    • 7

Make the circle that you traced in Step 1. Draw it 2 inches larger all the way around and cut out this new circle. Carefully cut along the circle line that you originally traced to make a 2-inch-wide ring out of the card stock.

    • 8

Cut a 3-inch-wide rectangular piece of card stock that's long enough to go around the inner edge of the card stock circle made in Step 7.

    • 9

Cut a circle that's 1/2 inch wider than the inner diameter of the card stock ring.

    • 10

Paint the ring made in Step 7, the rectangle piece made in Step 8 and the circle made in Step 9 with black craft paint. Allow the paint to dry completely before continuing with the next step.

    • 11

Glue the two short ends of the rectangular piece of card stock together. Place this inside the inner edge of the card stock ring and position it so that there is approximately 1/2 inch extending out the bottom of the ring.

    • 12

Make 1/2-inch clips that are 1/2 inch apart around this extending portion of card stock. Fold these tabs over and glue them to the bottom of the card stock ring.

    • 13

Make 1/2-inch clips that are 1/2 inch apart around the edge of the circle made in Step 9. Fold the clips down and place dabs of glue onto each folded clip. Insert the folded circle into the top of the hat to glue the top of the hat in place.

    • 14

Place glue around the inside edge of the hat and glue it on the snowman's head.

    • 15

Cut out small circles from the black felt to make round eyes, nose, pieces of coal for the snowman's mouth, and three buttons.

    • 16

Glue the felt circles onto the face of the snowman to create his eyes, nose and mouth.

    • 17

Cut out a long, thin rectangle from the red felt. Make a fringe in the short edges of the rectangle for a scarf fringe.

    • 18

Tie the scarf around the snowman's neck and dab a little glue under it to make sure it stays.

    • 19

Glue the three felt buttons to the front of the snowman.
