How to Decorate Interior Columns

Add appeal to your interior columns with simple decorations that will enhance your home. Interior columns do not have to be an eyesore, they can be a decorative addition to any interior living space.

Things You'll Need

• Paint
• Paintbrushes
• Newspaper or drop cloths
• Gloss or glaze
• Silk greenery
• Wire
• Silk flowers
• Glue gun

Instructions

1. Select a color of paint that will complement the décor of your living space.

2. Cover the living space that will not be painted with newspapers or drop cloths.

3. Paint interior columns with solid color of paint. Use a neutral color for the living space.

4. Use a gloss or glaze over the solid paint color. Use a medium paintbrush or paint roller and paint over the solid paint. Add a second coat of gloss or glaze for a shinier look.

5. Clean up paint and throw away the old newspapers or save for crafts.

6. Take the silk greenery and wrap wire around it. To do this, take the edge of the greenery and start wrapping the wire around the stems of the greenery. Continue wrapping wire around the stems of greenery until the entire length of greenery has wire wrapped around it. The wire will keep the greenery secure.

7. Add silk flowers into the greenery. Slide the silk flowers into the greenery by pressing the stem of the silk flowers into the greenery/wire combination. Place flowers every 2 or 3 inches. Glue the flowers onto the greenery to secure them.

8. Use the hot glue gun to glue the end of the greenery/wire combination to the top of the interior column. Do this on the back side of column or in the area that is least seen. Use a finger to press the greenery into the glue. Hold it for several seconds to allow the glue to set. By using the hot glue gun directly on the interior column, the greenery will remain secure. You only need to use a little glue.

9. Wrap the greenery wire around the interior column, spiraling down the column. The length of the greenery wire will determine how tightly you should wrap the greenery around column. The wire should go to the bottom of the column.
