Latex mattresses are appreciated because of they don't get moldy, don't need to be turned and our resistant to dust mites. While they are more expensive than most spring mattresses, they also last for 30 years. They can be a very smart buy. Does this Spark an idea?

Choose your layers. Latex mattresses are made up of two, three or four layers. The bottom layers are thick and the top layer is thin. Choose according to how much support your body needs---people over 300 lbs. need four layers, for example.

Choose your latex type. Talalay is rated better and is more elastic. Dunlop is more affordable and is firmer.

Visit a mattress or department store. Local mattress stores sell latex mattresses, and Macy's sells them nationally. If possible, test out mattresses and compare prices at different stores.

Create a rating system. Imagine your perfect firmness level, then choose a way to compare mattresses to it; stars, letter grades or numbers all work.

Compare mattresses by resting on them and deciding which is most comfortable. Write down the names of your favorites and give them a rating to help you remember which is which.
