Instructions

    • 1

Shut down your computer and unplug it.

    • 2

Open your computer case. If your computer is a laptop, take care not to break anything while opening it. If you are unsure how to open your case, consult your manufacturer.

    • 3

Locate your CPU battery. It is round, flat, and looks like a watch battery, but is much larger. It will be located directly on the motherboard.

    • 4

Gently remove the CPU battery by sliding it out in the open space in the side of its housing. It should slide right out, but depending on the manufacturer of your motherboard, there may be a clip holding it in. Dispose of the old CPU battery in an eco-friendly manner.

    • 5

Replace the old CPU battery with the new CPU battery (insert it the same way your old one was). Close your computer case, plug the computer back in, and reboot it.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can periodically check your CPU battery using a meter to prevent it dying unexpectedly.

  • Ground yourself to remove static electricity from your body by touching something metal that is grounded before touching anything in your computer case. Certain components can be damaged by static electricity.
