Building a clothes dryer rack takes about an hour.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 by 1 by 42-inch lumber (4)
  • 2 by 4 by 12-inch beam (2)
  • 1/4-inch diameter by 24-inch long dowels (4)
  • 1/4-inch diameter by 26-inch long dowels (4)
  • Drill with auger and screw bits
  • Circular saw
  • Sandpaper
  • 8 1 1/2-inch wood screws

    Prepare Your Wood

  1. Step 1

If necessary, cut your lumber to the proper lengths using a circular saw.

  2. Step 2

Using a 1/4-inch auger bit, drill two holes in each piece of the 1 by 1 by 42-inch lumber. Place the holes 13 inches and 25 inches from one end of the lumber.

  3. Step 3

Using a drill bit slightly smaller in diameter than the wood screws, drill two holes in each piece of the 1 by 1 by 42-inch lumber. Place the holes 1 inch and 37 inches from one end of the lumber.

  4. Step 4

Using a drill bit slightly smaller in diameter than the wood screws, drill a hole in the center of each end of 24-inch dowels.

  5. Step 5

Cut a 1 by 1-inch notch out of one side of each of the 2 by 4-inch beams. Place them 1/4 inch from each end.

  6. Step 6

Sand your wood using sandpaper or a power sander.

  7. Step 7

If you wish to paint or finish your wood, do so at this point.

  8. Assemble the Dryer Rack

  9. Step 1

Use the 1 1/2-inch wood nails to attach the 24-inch dowels to your posts. Drive the screws through the pre-drilled holes, creating a frame.

  10. Step 2

Slide the 26-inch dowels through the larger holes.

  11. Step 3

Slide the notched 2 by 4-inch beams onto the ends of the 1 by 1-inch posts, securing the rack in place. You can attach them permanently with glue or leave them free so as to collapse the rack when not in use.
