How to Make Archery Bows
One of the most elegant weapons for hunting and sport is the archery bow. The archery bow is a true weapon of skill and takes a lot of practice to learn how to use one properly. Purchasing an archery bow from a manufacturer can put some serious financial strain on your wallet, but that does not have to stop you from taking up archery. Instead, you can make your own with some wood, a knife, some foam and a nylon cord.

1
Pick out the type of wood you would like to make your bow from. The best types of wood to use for a bow are cedar or black walnut wood.
-
2
Select a dead branch from a tree. Use your knife to strip the branch of its bark. Your branch should be about 4 feet in length.
-
-
3
Sand the branch with 100-grit sandpaper. Wipe away the sawdust left over from the sanding process with a cloth.
-
4
Make a notch in the wood with your knife at both ends of the bow. These notches should be 1 inch deep into the wood.
-
5
Make a third notch in the very center of the wood bow. This notch only needs to be about 1/2 inch deep or less.
-
6
Tie a piece of nylon cord to the notches on the top and bottom ends of the bow. The string should be tight enough to make the bow bend some, and require a certain amount of force to draw it back when firing.
-
7
Apply some glue to a small piece of foam, and glue it just beneath the notch in the middle of the bow. This will be the arrow rest and hand grip of your bow.
