Crochet Easter Bunny Baskets

A handmade Easter basket can be a lovely gift for the holiday. Add some ribbon or a cloth lining to really make this basket something special. Fill with eggs for the big egg hunt or put chocolate in it to use as a candy dish. You can make a crocheted Easter bunny basket with 3 basic crochet stitches and a few hours of your time.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Medium worsted weight yarn
  • 5 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle (optional)
  1. Step 1

Chain 2. Work 6 single crochets in the first chain. Join the last single crochet with the first single crochet by using a slip stitch.

  2. Step 2

Chain 1 to begin the second round. Work 1 single crochet in the first stitch and 2 single crochets in the next stitch. In the third stitch, work 1 single crochet. In the fourth stitch, work 2 single crochets. In the fifth stitch, work 1 single crochet. In the sixth stitch, work 2 single crochets. Join with a slip stitch. Chain 1.

  3. Step 3

For the third round, do 1 single crochet in the first 2 stitches. In the third stitch, work 2 single crochets. In the fourth and fifth stitch, work 1 single crochet. In the sixth stitch, work 2 single crochets. Continue this pattern of working a single crochet in 2 of the next stitches and then 2 single crochet into the next stitch until you reach the end of the round. Join with a slip stitch. Chain 1.

  4. Step 4

For the fourth round, work a single crochet in the first 3 stitches. In the fourth stitch, do 2 single crochets. In the next 3 stitches, work 1 single crochet. Then in the next stitch, work 2 single crochets. Continue to work 3 single crochets in the next 3 stitches of the round, followed by 2 single crochets in the next stitch until the end of the round. Join with a slip stitch. Chain 1.

  5. Step 5

For round 5, work a single crochet in the first 4 stitches. In the fifth stitch, work 2 single crochets.* Work a single crochet in each of the next 4 stitches. In the next stitch, work 2 single crochets. Repeat from the asterisk(*) until you get to the end of the round. Join with a slip stitch. Chain 1.

  6. Step 6

For round 6, work a single crochet in each of the first 5 stitches. For the sixth stitch, work 2 single crochets. * In the next 5 stitches, work a single crochet. In the next stitch, work 2 single crochets. Repeat from the asterisk(*) until the end of the round. Join with a slip stitch. Chain 1.

  7. Step 7

The seventh round will be the last round to form the bottom of the basket. Work a single crochet in each of the first 6 stitches. In the seventh stitch, work 2 single crochets. * In the next 6 stitches, work a single crochet. In the seventh stitch, do 2 single crochets. Repeat from asterisk(*) until you reach the end of the round. Join with a slip stitch. Chain 1.

  8. Step 8

For the eighth round, work a single crochet in the back loop only of each stitch for the entire round. Chain 2.

  9. Step 9

Now we will be working on the side of the basket. For rounds 9-13, work a double crochet in each stitch. Join each round with a slip stitch.

  10. Step 10

Round 14 will be the frilly side of the basket that is made by using the shell stitch. The shell stitch is 5 double crochets worked in a single stitch. Then chain 2. Skip 2 stitches and then work 5 double crochets in the third stitch from the last shell. Continue the pattern and join with a slip stitch at the end of the round.

  11. Step 11

To make the handle, single crochet across a shell for a total of 6 single crochets. Chain 1 and turn. Single crochet across for a total of 5, then chain 1 and turn. Continue until you have 35 rows. Join the handle to the opposite side of the basket by either using a yarn needle or using a slip stitch.

Tips & Warnings
  • After joining a round with a single stitch, chain 1 if the next round starts with a single crochet. Chain 2 if it starts with a double crochet.
  • The basket may not stand up by itself. You may have to starch it or perhaps use a heavier yarn.
