Make a Home Remedy Oatmeal Scrub for Dry Skin

Dry skin is an uncomfortable and all too common skin condition, particularly during the colder months. Not only is it responsible for itchy and cracked skin, but it can lead to premature aging of the skin as well. Unlike soaps that tend to irritate dry skin, a home remedy oatmeal scrub has anti-inflammatory properties. By removing dead skin cells and energizing the flow of blood under the skin, an oatmeal scrub will leave your skin glowing. With just a handful of oats, some honey and maybe even a little apple, you can cleanse your skin without subjecting it to lye and other drying ingredients found in commercial products. Does this Spark an idea?

Tips & Warnings

  • According to Jeanne Paiva, author of "How to Treat Your Skin Naturally!", an oatmeal scrub makes an excellent facial mask for people with dry skin. A facial mask will pull out impurities in the skin. She warns against doing both a scrub and a mask in one day to avoid discomfort. For a quick scrub with a little less mess, put the mixed ingredients in a muslin tea bag and use that to gently scrub your skin. Since oatmeal is a natural itch reliever as well, apply a little of the oatmeal scrub to a bug bite to soothe discomfort.

  • When using these ingredients for the first time on your sensitive skin, test a small area before applying. If you feel any discomfort from the oatmeal scrub, rinse immediately and discontinue use.
