Things You'll Need:
- Safety glasses
- Tire machine
- Valve stem puller (optional)
- Tire lubricant with wand
-
Step 1
Put on the safety glasses.
-
Step 2
Place the rim on the turntable of the tire machine and activate the locking jaws to hold the rim in place. If the rim does not have a valve stem or you wish to replace it, extract the old one with a valve stem puller and insert a new one into the valve stem hole in the rim.
-
Step 3
Apply a liberal coat of tire lubricant to the inner and outer tire bead using the tire lubricant wand.
-
Step 4
Place the tire on its sidewall on top of the rim so that the desired exterior sidewall of the tire is facing upward.
-
Step 5
Tilt the tire on the right hand side of the rim and swing the adjustable tool arm of the tire machine so that the bottom head of the tool arm (also known as a duckhead since it resembles the profile of a duck's head) seats against the edge of the rim and the arm is through the center of the radial tire.
-
Step 6
Twist the tire so that the bottom bead dips below the front of the duckhead and activate the turntable in a clockwise motion. The machine will place the bead of the tire onto the rim and all you'll have to do is guide it by holding the tire on the tread and letting the machine do the work.
-
Step 7
Press the top sidewall down in front of the duckhead so the the top bead of the tire is below the front of the duckhead, but bead of the tire remains over the back end of the duckhead.
-
Step 8
Activate the turntable in a clockwise position and the machine will again place the top bead of the radial tire onto the rim. In some stiff sidewall tires, you may have to press down the sidewall and operate the turntable slowly so the bead does not slip off.
-
Step 9
Remove the valve stem cap. Inflate the tire by attaching the air hose (on the tire machine) to the valve stem and activating the air pressure switch.
-
Step 10
Inflate the tire to the proper recommended inflation. Replace the valve stem cap.
