Some of the best varieties of tea come in the loose leaf form. However you may not enjoy free tea leaves floating in your drink and likely lack a cup made specifically to separate them. Using a tea ball will allow you to enjoy tea without the worry of coming into contact with loose leaves. While you can purchase a tea ball, it is just as easy to make one at home. Things You'll Need

  • Cheese cloth
  • Scissors
  • Heaping teaspoon of loose leaf tea
  • 6-inch piece of string

Instructions

      Cut a 3-inch square piece out of your cheese cloth. Place it flat on the counter top.

      Spoon the loose leaf tea onto the very center of the piece of cheese cloth.

      Gather the edges of the cloth at the top, making a pouch with the tea inside.

      Use the end of the string to securely tie the pouch closed. Tie it tightly so that it does not open while making your tea.

      Steep your homemade tea ball in hot water until the drink reaches your desired strength.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can add more or less tea leaves depending on the strength of flavor you desire in your tea. You can reuse the cheese cloth a few times if only steeping your tea in water. Untie it, throw out the used tea and wash and dry it thoroughly.

  • Make sure your piece of cheese cloth is large enough to hold the amount of tea you wish to use so that you can securely close off the top when making a tea ball.
