Knowing how to make lock picks out of paper clips is an important skill to have if you ever find yourself locked out of your home or car. In an emergency, you can turn a common paper clip into a lock pick to be able to unlock it and get in. Remember to only use paper clip lock picks to enter property that belongs to you.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Large-sized paper clip
  • Hammer
  • Hard surface
  1. Step 1
     

    Bend the paperclip into the shape seen here by unfolding the bottom arm.

  2. Step 2

    Place the paperclip onto a hard surface and pound the end of the paperclip with a hammer or other blunt object until it becomes flat.

  3. Step 3

    Practice your lock-picking skills on old locks that you may have around the house before you rely on it to use as a reliable way to unlock a piece of locked property.

  4. Step 4

    Know that a paper clip lock pick will only last for a few tries before it will effectively bend or break off.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't use plastic-coated paper clips as lock picks; the plastic coating can rub off inside the lock, causing it to jam.
