Gun rests are used for target shooting, sighting in rifles and hunting. The primary purpose of a gun rest is to provide stability for the shooter to enable a more accurate shot. Commercial gun rests are available for a wide price range. Save money and make your own gun rest that's just as effective.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Determine the size of the gun rest. You can make a single, large gun rest, or several small rests.

  2. Step 2

Measure the canvas, or other heavy-weight fabric. It should be double the size of the gun rest to allow for a small pillow with sufficient filler. Cut the fabric to size as straight as possible.

  3. Step 3

Fold over the fabric over once and sew three edges together. Leave one end open for filler.

  4. Step 4

Turn the fabric inside out (so the seam is on the inside,) and add filler. Neatly fold the open edge inside the form and sew a straight stitch across the edge.

Tips & Warnings
  • Adjust the amount of filler to customize the rest for the shooter. Different fillers provide different support; experiment with different products and determine which one works best.
  • Use caution when operating sewing machines.
