How to Get Rid of Fleas With Spices From Your Kitchen

How to Get Rid of Fleas With Spices From Your Kitchen thumbnail
Fleas can carry worms.

Fleas make your pets uncomfortable, and when your dog is infested, the fleas can end up biting you, too. It's best to treat the fleas as soon as possible, because they can cause your dog to experience an allergic reaction and they can also spread diseases and parasites such as worms. While you can buy a commercial flea killer from a pet store, you can also get rid of fleas with spices from your kitchen.

Instructions

    • 1

Cook 1/3 cup of rice on the stove or make microwavable rice. Rice is gentle on dogs' digestive systems.

    • 2

Prepare 1/3 cup of oatmeal on the stove or in the microwave. Choose a plain oatmeal that doesn't have any added flavors.

    • 3

Cook 1/3 cup of barley on the stove. It can take up to 45 minutes to cook.

    • 4

Mix the rice, oatmeal and barley together in a large bowl. Add a pinch of garlic, black pepper, onion, paprika, ginger, parsley and oregano spices. A tablespoon of vegetable oil can make mixing easier.

    • 5

Feed this mixture to your dog daily for a week. When you begin to notice fewer fleas and scratching, you can serve this meal every other day.

    • 6

For severe infestations, apply a small amount of garlic powder directly onto the dog's skin. Be sure to avoid your dog's face, because you don't want to get this in its eyes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cook a week's worth of this meal so it's ready to serve. This meal can also be served to cats suffering from flea infestations.

  • Fleas are carriers of diseases and parasites, so you should treat your dog with flea medication year round to prevent infestations.
