How to Change a Headlight in Dodge Cars

by Contributing WriterUpdated June 12, 2017

The Dodge car must have properly working headlights at all time while being driven on the road. The headlight on the Dodge car is accessible on the inside of the engine compartment behind the front of the headlight. The headlight is secured to the headlight fixture by a plastic connector that also connects the headlight's wiring harness. You will not need tools or preparation to complete this job. Replacing the headlights on the Dodge car will take you five minutes or less for each headlight.

Open the hood.

Remove the expanding headlight fastener retaining screw (located on the upper/inner corner of the assembly) with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the fastener from the headlight assembly welt.

Use a ratchet and socket to remove the two retaining bolts on the inner side of the headlight assembly that is located near the grill.

Remove the last retaining screw located on the outer-lower edge of the headlight assembly between the assembly and the fender. Note that on the driver's side assembly this retaining screw also retains the ambient temperature sensor.

Wiggle the headlight assembly out from the fender, being careful not to scratch the lens or the fender. There will still be some resistance because the assembly is retained by headlight assembly guide pins. These pins need to be popped out of their ball sockets to allow the assembly to detach.

Release the electrical connector going to the headlight. Lift up on the harness locks and then pull it from the headlight socket.

Twist the directional wire harness 1/4 turn to remove it from the assembly.

Place the assembly on a safe surface where it will not get scratched or damaged. Turn the retaining collar on the headlight 1/4 turn.

Remove the headlight. Wear latex gloves before handling the new headlight or your skin will damage the glass. Install the 9007 replacement bulb into the collar and then reverse the removal procedure to reassemble.
