Step 1
The ten minutes you spend in the interview is probably the most important ten minutes of your whole America's Junior Miss experience. The interview is usually the first opportunity the judges will have to meet you. You must make it a good one! If you can win the Junior Miss judges over during interview they will keep their eye on you during the rest of the pageant and this is important if you are competing against 40 girls!
-
Step 2
Dress for Success! Wear a more professional looking outfit but make it one you love. When you feel like you look good you will have more confidence in yourself. Practice walking and sitting in your outfit. Make sure it is comfortable. Modesty is important. No cleavage showing or thigh high skirts! Keep your jewelry to a minimum. You want the judges looking at you and not be distracted by dangling earrings.
-
Step 3
Knowledge is Power! Pay attention to the news. Learn about the world around you and form an opinion. Know details about your community, state and nation. Know your government leaders. Know everything about your biography. Know what your goals and dreams are. Answer questions with honesty and with personality. Make the judges fall in love with you! They love a girl with a good sense of humor.
-
Step 4
Show confidence in your interview. Confident, not cocky. Be positive in your answers. An upbeat and optimistic point of view is impressive. Be friendly and open but not giggly. Be sincere, a judge can spot a phoney very easily.
-
Step 5
Maintain eye contact with the judges. Look at the judge that asks the question when starting your answer, then look at each of the other judges, and end your answer looking back at the beginning judge. Don't look down at your lap or up at the ceiling when trying to formulate your answer. Use good grammar and avoid slang.
-
Step 6
Prepare a One Minute Ending: It's important to have a well prepared one minute ending. This is your opportunity to tell the judges something special about yourself. Keep it interesting. Suggestions include; an activity that you are involved in and how it impacts your life such as sports, talents or community service; a remarkable part of your personality; an event that has made a difference in your life. Have your thoughts organized and be well prepared for this presentation. This ending can change the whole interview.
-
Step 7
The judges are looking for an "all American girl" for the Junior Miss title. They want to find a girl with common sense, who takes her education seriously, who is interested in the world around her, and who exemplifies good standards and values.
