1. Many companies go through a third party to help collect their market research data. These third party companies connect consumers with the companies in a cost effective way. When looking for a third party market research entity, be sure to carefully check their credentials before giving out any of your personal information. There should be contact information, and preferably endorsements from reputable sources. Also, ask around. Do you know someone who has tried a specific site before? Do they recommend it? Word of mouth is a great way to find out about these types of opportunities.

2. Beware of scams and people who are looking to take advantage of you. If something looks too good to be true, than it probably is. You should also never have to pay to participate in market research, ever. If a site is asking for your credit card or bank account number, do not give it out! There are plenty of legitimate and free market research opportunities.

3. Pick the type of market research that appeals to you. You won't make tons of money overnight with market research, it will take dedication and persistence, so make sure that it is something that you enjoy. Some sites are set up so that the interface resembles a game or trivia. These will be easier over the long run to stick to.

4. Don't have high expectations with market research. More than likely, you will not be able to live off of it alone. It can however pay for a nice dinner out every once and a while, and on the rarest of occasions, buy you that purse/vacation/electronic that you've been eyeing.
