Using reusable grocery bags can eliminate a lot of waste

Purchasing reusable bags to use at the grocery store is a great way to reduce your consumption of plastic bags. These bags can be purchased relatively cheaply from many grocers and are usually big and sturdy enough to carry many groceries without breaking. For some, however, actually using the bags after purchasing them can be a challenge simply because you are not used to using them. By following a few rules, reusable grocery bags are easy to use.

Step 1

Put empty bags in your car. One of the main reasons people that who own recyclable grocery bags do not use them is because they leave them at home. Making sure they are always in the car you use to go to the grocery store will help you remember them.
Step 2

Take the bags out of your car once you arrive at the grocery store. Put the bags in a shopping cart you find in the parking lot of the store (this also helps out the store’s workers) and bring it all inside.
Step 3

Place your groceries in your cart, being careful not to cover your reusable grocery bags with them.
Step 4

At the checkout, place your reusable grocery bags on the conveyor belt before any of the groceries. This way, the checker will have all your bags.
Step 5

When you return home, empty the reusable grocery bags and place them back into your car again before you forget.
