Draw a Toon Link Face

Link from the Legend of Zelda series is one of the most famous and beloved video game characters of all time. He has battled the forces of evil to protect the land of Hyrule over and over. Link has traveled back in forth in time, transformed himself into different animals and people and learned to use music to summon aid on his quest. Drawing a cartoon version of Link's face can be very satisfying for a fan of the series. Like most illustrations of faces, Link's face can be done with an oval as the base frame of the illustration. Pay close attention to the features that set apart Link from other characters, specifically the pointed ears, sideburns and long cap.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw Link's face with a large oval that comes to a slight point at the chin. Draw a horizontal line across the middle of the face. Draw a vertical line across the middle of the face from the top to the chin. Add a small "V" shape on the lower third of the vertical line for the nose. Add a short horizontal dash directly below this for the mouth. Add the ears with two triangles on the right and left side of the face.

    • 2

Draw Link's eyes with two triangular shapes that have a round top. Add the eyebrows with a curved line directly above the eyes. Draw the bottom lip with a curved line under the mouth. Draw the sideburns with two triangles coming off the bottom of the ears. Draw the hair with a rectangular shape across the right-hand side of the face. Add two curved triangular shapes for the locks of the left-side hair.

    • 3

Add a semicircle around the top of the head for the cap on Link's hat. Add a sideways "L" shape to the upper left side of the cap. Add another "L" shape the bottom of the first. Draw a curved line that starts at the bottom of the lowest "L" shape and goes up and to the right, disappearing behind the head. This will create the point on Link's hat. Draw the neck with two vertical lines coming down from the right and left of the face. Add a curved line just below the chin for the collar of the undershirt.

    • 4

Draw the shoulders with two diagonal lines coming down from the neck on the right and left side. Add a small "X" at the base of the collar. Draw the pupils and irises with two small circles inside the eyes. Erase any overlapping guidelines in your illustration. Ink the entire illustration. Let the ink dry for at least five minutes. Erase all of your pencil lines. Darken the pupils and add a shadow under the chin.

Color the cap and shirt of link green. Color the neck and face beige. Use brown for the hair and blue for the irises. Leave the undershirt and color white. Add highlights with colored pencil. Add light green to the top of the cap, shoulders and the top edge of the point on the hat. Add highlights of yellow to the hair.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use different colors to put Link in new versions of this outfit. Why not try a red or blue version?

  • Let the marker dry for at least five minutes before you add the highlights with colored pencil or the picture could tear.
