Are you looking for an economical, healthy homemade kitten food to give to your weaning kittens? At this stage, they will continue to want to nurse, and probably will not show a great deal of interest in trying canned food. Dry kibble will be too rough on their developing teeth, so the best option would be to mix up something that reminds them of their mother’s milk, but will also help transition them to canned food. This recipe for homemade kitten food is simple to make and delicious to kittens.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Package Unflavored Gelatin
  • 1 1/2 Cups Water
  • 1 12 Ounce Can Goat's Milk
  • 3 Tbsp Full Fat Yogurt
  • 3 Tbsp Real Mayonnaise
  • 3 Tsp Light Corn Syrup
  • 1 Raw Egg Yolk
  1. Step 1

Bring water to a boil, then remove from heat and mix in gelatin until thoroughly dissolved. Do not boil the gelatin.

  2. Step 2

Pour mixture into blender with half of the milk, then mix on low until combined. It should only take a few seconds to combine everything thoroughly.

  3. Step 3

Add remaining ingredients one at a time, mixing after each one until thoroughly combined before adding the next. Keep the speed on low, and be careful to not pulverize too fine.

  4. Step 4

Serve your completed homemade kitten food as is, or stored for later usage. Just cover tightly and store in the refrigerator for up to ten days, or freeze for up to three months.

  5. Step 5

Warm your homemade kitten food slightly before serving, especially if it is coming from the refrigerator or freezer. Kittens are used to milk being warm, and cold food can cause upset stomach.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your tap water tastes bad, filter it first using an activated charcoal filter.
  • Use pasteurized in the shell eggs to prevent any risk of salmonella poisoning.
  • Do not use cow’s milk in your homemade kitten food. Many cats are lactose intolerant, and using cow’s milk can lead to sickness and diarrhea.
