Cosmopolitan Cocktail

A Cosmopolitan, or a Cosmo, is a pretty, pink cocktail that belongs to the light and fruity martini family. Cosmopolitan cocktails became the hits of pool parties and brunches in the 1970s as flavored vodkas were introduced to consumers. There was another surge in popularity when the gals from Sex in the City sipped this sophisticated drink. There are numerous Cosmopolitan cocktail recipes. Here’s how to make a Cosmopolitan cocktail the way I like it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 5 ounce chilled martini glass
  • Sugar
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Ice cubes
  • 2 ounces of vodka
  • 1 ounce of cranberry juice
  • ½ ounce orange-flavored liquor
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Lime slice
  1. Step 1

Wet the rim of your chilled martini glass with cranberry juice. Dip it in the sugar.

  2. Step 2

Fill your cocktail shaker about halfway with ice cubes.

  3. Step 3

Add 2 ounces (about 2 shot glasses) of your favorite vodka into the cocktail shaker.

  4. Step 4

Pour 1 ounce (about 2 tablespoons) of cranberry juice into the cocktail shaker.

  5. Step 5

Add one-half ounce (about 1 tablespoon) of an orange-flavored liquor to give your Cosmo a little "citrusy" kick.

  6. Step 6

Pour 1 ounce of fresh lime juice into the shaker.

  7. Step 7

Cover and shake it up for about 15 seconds. This will mix the ingredients and evenly chill your drink.

  8. Step 8

Strain with the cocktail strainer and pour your drink into the martini glass. Make sure you don’t get any ice into the glass.

  9. Step 9

Garnish the glass with a lime slice. Cheers!

Tips & Warnings
  • This recipe makes one 5 ounce Cosmopolitan cocktail.
  • Add grapefruit juice instead of cranberry juice for a twist.
  • Try flavored vodka for variety.
  • Use bottled lime juice if you’re fresh out of limes.
  • Don’t overdo it on the shaking or your Cosmopolitan will be very diluted.
  • NEVER drink and drive.

on 4/20/2009 Good job...interesting that you could refine the wait time to 15 seconds...that must have involved lots of trial and error...5
