How to Play Pirates of the Caribbean on the Piano

"Pirates of the Caribbean" was a film trilogy starring Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley. The theme song for these movies is a very distinct and memorable one. Using any number of instruments, you can re-create the "Pirates of the Caribbean" theme yourself. However, using a piano could be the easiest and most accurate way for you to mimic this iconic song. You do not have to be a master-level pianist.

1. Identify how to read piano tabs first by understanding that the piano is set up in groups of seven notes--c,d,e,f,g,a,b. Each group is called an octave. The very middle key on the piano is called "middle c," which begins the fourth octave. So for example, this piano tab: 3l---d----e---f---a, means that you play the d-note followed by the e-note, followed by the f-note and finally the a-note, all in the third octave

2. Locate the d-note in the fourth octave, play this note three times, then play the e-note directly next to it once, and finally play the f-note in the fourth octave twice. The piano tab will look like this: 4l----d-d----d-e---f-f.

3. Play the f-note in the fourth octave once followed quickly by the g-note right next to it. Pause for one beat then play the e-note of the fourth octave twice, followed by the d-note, c-note, c-note and d-note, all in the fourth octave. The piano tab for this section will look like this: 4l----f-g--e-e--d-c---c-d.

4. Play the short transition between the sections by first striking the a-note in the third octave followed by the c-note in the fourth octave. The Step 2 riff then starts again, beginning with the d-note played three times. The piano tab for this short transition looks like this; 3l--a-- 4l--c---.

5. Play Steps 2, 3 and 4 together continuously to play the main theme of "Pirates of the Caribbean" on piano.
