It amazes me how many people use Yahoo messenger but don't realize that they can use it on their phone without having to have internet on their phone. All that is required is text messaging! I recommend unlimited text messaging by the way because this is a lot of fun and very addictive! This guide will teach you step-by-step how to use Yahoo messenger for SMS (text messaging.)

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cell (mobile) phone
  • Unlimited text messaging
  • Optional calluses on your fingertips.
  1. Step 1

If you are not already signed in to Yahoo messenger through your mobile device then sign in now. To sign in, start by composing a message to send to the number 92466 (these are the numbers that correspond to the letters Y A H O O, pretty easy to remember huh?) The text should have the following in this order: the word in, nothing around it or anything just the two letters I and N together to form the word in. Now one space and then type in your yahoo id, not the words yahoo id but instead whatever your actual yahoo id is. Now skip one more space and enter your password, once again, enter the actual password and send the message. You are now signed in and your friends will be able to see that you are mobile. You should receive a text message letting you know that you are logged in and who on your list of contacts is signed in.

  2. Step 2

Now that you are signed in you can send or receive messages. To receive a message, do nothing. Your incoming messages will look like any other text except it will have a number for your contact and will have their yahoo id listed before the message. To reply to a message all that you have to do is hit reply and text just like you would when you reply to any text message! Still easy huh?

  3. Step 3

But wait ... what if no one has messaged you and you want to talk to someone? What do you do? This is easily handled. Start by composing a message to 92466 (YAHOO.) Like in the first step, follow what should be entered next in this order: the word "to" followed by a space (do not include quotation marks around the word to), the yahoo id of the person that you want to contact followed by another space and then whatever you want to type for your message. It's that easy!

  4. Step 4

Finally if you want to sign out of Yahoo messenger, maybe because you are going to sleep or your fingers are sore from texting and having so much fun, it is easy as can be. Here it comes..wait for it....all that you have to do is send a text to 92466 (YAHOO) that says the word "out." No quotation marks or anything just the letters O U T together.

Tips & Warnings
  • This can be very addictive but a whole lot of fun.
  • If you have not set up your phone for Yahoo messenger please follow the steps in my other easy guide http://www.ehow.com/how_4907556_set-up-yahoo-messenger-sms.html
  • Make sure that you have unlimited text messaging before signing up for this or things could get very expensive. Trust me, I know from first-hand experience.
