How to Sew a Pillow

Sewing a pillow can be any level, but mostly moderately easy. These instructions teach you how to easily sew a pillow. The time that it takes depends on the designs... Will you sew anything on the fabric? Or leave it plain?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fabric (How much depends on size)
  • Complete sewing kit
  • Stuffing
  • Sewing machine (Optional)
  • BLACK sharpie marker
  • Sewing ruler
  1. Step 1

Measure the fabric so that it is the size you want for your pillow. Do the corners meet? If they do, take out your BLACK sharpie marker and draw a straight line and mark the parts of the fabric where you will cut. Cut out on the lines, and you should have 2 pieces of even fabric.

  2. Step 2

Take out your sewing machine or needle, and begin to sew the sides (evenly!) together. Leave 1 side of the pillow open, and stitch in any designs you want. If you are using a sewing machine for stitching in the design, it is recommended that you stitch them in the fabric BEFORE you sew the pieces to together.

  3. Step 3

After sewing in the optional designs, turn the pillow inside out. Begin to stuff the pillow with stuffing in the open space. After the pillow is stuffed, feel it with your hand. Is it to firm? Or to squishy? Remove or add some stuffing. When it is just right, sew the open space with a needle (Not the sewing machine!!). After you complete this, your pillow is done!

Tips & Warnings
  • Pillows sewn by family or friends makes great gifts!
  • If you are a beginner, you can use a sewing machine on pieces of paper, tracing lines (Make sure the machine is NOT threaded!).
  • Make sure that you sew in designs with the sewing machine before you sew the pieces together!
