Learn how to make the traditional Mint Julep in honor of the famous Kentucky Derby. Impress your guests at your derby party this year by serving these refreshing, traditional cocktails. You can find fresh mint leaves in the produce department of the grocery store.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • Fresh Mint Leaves
  • Kentucky Bourbon
  • Ice
  1. Step 1

To make a simple syrup, combine the water and sugar in a pot and boil for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. If you like, you can add a few mint leaves to the syrup while it is cooling to add extra minty flavor. This can be made ahead of time, and kept in the refrigerator.

  2. Step 2

To make one drink, add a few mint leaves to the serving glass and muddle with a long spoon, so the leaves break up a bit and the flavor is released. Add ice to the glass, as well as 1 ounce of the simple syrup, and 2 ounces of bourbon. Stir quickly.

  3. Step 3

Garnish the glass with a mint leaf sprig. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • If the drink is too strong, you can add a splash of club soda after mixing the drink.
