This will give pregnant women tips to achieving a natural childbirth of their dreams

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First, you will want to read Henci Goer's "Thinking Woman's Guide to Childbirth." This will help you to focus on your goal of a natural delivery.

  2. Step 2

Choose your childbirth location and care provider. You have options. You can have your baby in a hospital with an obstetrician, which is the usual method. You can also have your baby in the hospital with a midwife, in a birthing center with a midwife, or at home with a midwife. You are much less likely to achieve a natural delivery in the hospital with an obstetrician.

  3. Step 3

Hire a doula. This is a childbirth companion/coach who will help you through labor and help your husband/partner understand what he can do to help as well.

  4. Step 4

Have a healthy pregancy by taking your vitamins, eating appropriately, exercising regularly, and keeping your stress levels in check.

  5. Step 5

Drink Red Raspberry Leaf tea throughout your pregnancy to tone your uterus.

  6. Step 6

Stay hydrated, even if you need to use the bathroom several times an hour later in your pregnancy.

  7. Step 7

Use a stool softener or laxative to relieve any constipation you may have later in your pregnancy. Hard stools can obstruct labor.

  8. Step 8

Take evening primrose oil or Omega 3 oil to soften your cervix. Another alternative is to have sex as there are prostoglandins in the semen which will further soften the cervix. Contractions on a soft cervix are less intense, therefore do not hurt as much and makes a successful natural delivery more likely.

  9. Step 9

Walk throughout your labor to cope with contractions. Stay upright, breath, and have your doula and partner cater to your needs in labor.

Tips & Warnings
  • Natural deliveries are beautiful and follow a different labor pattern than medicated deliveries.
  • Your body will be flush with the hormone oxytocin which will help you bond more securely with your baby (and anyone else in the room!)
  • Breastfeeding will be easier to establish, and recovery will be quick. Don't be surprised if you want to go home with your baby immediately.
