Communication can definitely ease the tension in a marriage; it allows people to vent, to release what needs to be said, and express needs and wants from one another. If when communicating with your spouse you communicate angrily or in an irritable manner, more than likely you will receive a response that is full of anger. This sort of behavior can lead to head to head confrontation with your spouse that will ultimately surround you with an unhappy and unwanted mess of a relationship. Communication is the key to any healthy relationship, but it must be done properly.

      No pointing fingers! Do not start a conversation with accusations. Ease into the conversation by praising what he/she does well and subtly mention what your expectations are or what ended up making you upset. Think hard, there are GREAT things about your partner.

      Write it down. If every time you try to talk to your spouse about an issue and you end up in an argument, try communicating differently. Spoken emotion can be so dramatic, written emotion can be more adequate for certain situations. Writing your feelings down will allow you to think before you write your emotion. It also leaves out the attitude and the dirty looks.
