Do you need some extra money this summer?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ambition
  • motivation
  • a resume
  • a smile
  1. Step 1

Explore your options. What are you interested in? What are you good at? Remember: You’ll be spending the best days of what summer’s weather has to offer at this job. Since these are the best months of the year, make sure you’ll be happy with where you are and what you’re doing. Choose your hours and atmosphere wisely.

  2. Step 2

Update the old resume! Blow some dust off the cover letter and tweak away! Make sure your references are up to date. Touch up your resume according to the type of job you’re looking for. Edit your interests, education and background so that you reflect yourself as a strong candidate to your potential employers.

  3. Step 3

Search search search! The internet can be a very helpful tool. Use your favorite search engines to look up job finders such as monster.com, craigslist, career-finder.org, jobs.com, indeed.com, and careerbuilder.com. Also, check out the “help wanted” ads in your local newspaper! There are always a few offers that are worth looking into. Send out copies of a cover letter and resume to all the jobs that intrigue you. Temp agencies are also a strong candidate and a big help if you’re looking for something formal such as office work. Also, employers love when you’re proactive, so get off the cozy couch and take a walk around your town or city. Enquire about positions of interest within your local area. If you show them your interest in person and you make a good impression, it sometimes heightens your chances of scoring a position than if you had written an email or made a phone call.

  4. Step 4

Network! Talk to your family, friends, and previous employers. You’d be surprised what others may know or have connections to. This will greatly increase your chances of finding work.

  5. Step 5

Get hired and enjoy a lucrative, well spent summer!
