How to Make a Fitted Hat Smaller

Fitted hats look good because they mold to the shape of your head. Unfortunately, fitted hats are not adjustable. Before you return your hat because it doesn't fit, you can try shrinking it to fit your head.

Instructions

1. If your hat is made out of wool or cotton, you can easily shrink the hat using hot water and either letting it air dry, or drying it with a blow dryer. There are two methods to shrink a hat with hot water.

2. Shower with the hat on. The hot water will cause the hat to shrink, and as it shrinks it will mold to your head. Walk around with the hat on your head, or put it on something round such as a ball, so that it will retain it's shape. NOTE: Do not use soap on the hat.

3. Rinse the hat out with hot water. Use a hair dryer to dry the hat, and repeat as necessary until the hat fits.

4. If your hat is made out of a different material, shrinking it will be tricky as you may ruin the hat. It is best to take the hat to a dry cleaners that can alter clothes, or to a tailor shop to have it professionally altered.

Tips & Warnings

• Do not soak the hat in hot water, as the colors will run.
• Do not put the hat in the washing machine. The hat will be misshapen when you take it out.
• Do not wring the hat out, as this will cause it to lose it's shape.
