How to Easily Memorize Bible Verses
Memorizing scripture is a practice that is both beneficial and practical. It can be useful when talking about religion, defending your own spiritual beliefs or debating its meaning with someone else. A commitment to learning Bible verses also helps increase overall memory skills. But memorizing verses -- particularly longer ones -- isn't easy for everyone, and there are many things you can do to help make memorization easier and more enjoyable.

Instructions

-
1
Decide on a passage you want to memorize.
-
2
Write the verse down on a note card and include the book, chapter and verse number.
-
3
Paraphrase the meaning of the verse out loud. Chances are that if you don't understand its meaning, you won't be able to recall it as easily.
-
4
Place the note card somewhere you will see it regularly. This can be on your bedroom mirror, in your car, next to your nightstand or taped on a door you walk by regularly. Take time to read it every time you see it.
-
5
Practice saying the verse out loud without reading it. If you mess up, reread it and try again. Continue doing this until you can recite the verse multiple times without errors.
-
6
Say the verse regularly. Once you have memorized a verse or passage, it isn't automatically always going to be in your mind. Regular use or reference to the scripture will ingrain it deeper in your memory.

Tips & Warnings
Remember there are many versions of Bible translations available. When deciding to memorize a verse or passage, choose which version you want to learn.
Read the verse out loud to yourself. Because some people are auditory learners, speaking it aloud might make the verse more memorable.
Adapt the verse to the tune of a song that you like or that easily gets stuck in your head, or make up your own tune. If you are singing the verse, it is sometimes easier to remember the words.
If it's easier to type verses than write them or have them on your handheld electronic devices, use websites like Flashcard Machine or Mobilize Faith to create electronic flashcards of verses.
Don't rush when trying to recite your chosen Bible verse. Speaking slowly and clearly sometimes makes it easier to recall the words.
Don't take shortcuts. Practicing your scripture while multitasking will be a waste of time. Avoid reading and reciting your verse when there are other distractions, such as television or other people.
