Step 1
The first method is to use chemicals to remove paint. These are often sold as "paint stripper" or "paint remover". Most fall in to two categories: liquid or thin paste.
-
Step 2
The liquids can remove a layer or two and the pastes can remove many layers as well as being easier to use overhead. Whichever you use to remove paint from your project be sure to follow manufacturers instructions.
-
Step 3
Apply the paint remover quickly with even brush strokes. Try not to brush areas you have already applied the chemicals to.
-
Step 4
Wait a certain amount of time depending on the directions on the paint remover. Then, depending on the type of chemicals you used to remove the paint either wash the surface clean, or use a paint scrapper or putty knife to remove the paint.
-
Step 5
The second way to remove paint is to sand it off of the surface it is on. It can be done by hand but is rather tedious. To speed to process use a palm sander or belt sander.
-
Step 6
The main problem with sing sand paper to remove paint is that you will probably end up removing some of the surface below it as well. If this isn't a problem use a coarse sand paper to remove paint from the object.
-
Step 7
The third way to remove paint is by using heat. Take a heat gun and heat the paint until you can see the texture of the paint begin to change. Next remove paint from the object using a paint scrapper. Don't leave the heat gun over the wood too long or you could burn the wood.
