To add a webcam to your computer, first install the device's drivers and software. Most webcams, including the Logitech QuickCam, come with an installation CD that contains the drivers and software that you need. The instructions may vary depending on the manufacturer and the type of webcam you purchase, but in general you will need to install the drivers, install the software, reboot your computer, and then connect the webcam.

      Insert the Logitech webcam's software CD into your computer's optical drive.

      Select which language you want to use. Choose "Typical Installation," and then click "Next."

      Read the license agreement, and then click "I Accept." The drivers and software will be installed onto your computer.

      Plug your Logitech webcam into a USB port on the computer. The Logitech installation wizard will take you to a settings page.

      Look at the image in the middle of the screen -- this is what the person on the receiving end of your webcam broadcast will see. Click "OK."

      Click "Done." You'll now be able to use your Logitech webcam with your computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Read the installation manual. While most webcams require a similar method of installation, they vary slightly by manufacturer and model.

  • Keep your webcam unplugged when not in use. Although it's difficult to do hackers who are able to install a trojan or remote on your computer can activate your webcam without your knowledge.
