Recycle you old furniture is always a good ideal. It is important that you have a workspace that is appealing to your room and to your personality. If you work at home your simple table desk will speak volume to your clients. Simple tips and tricks can turn a dull table desk into a conversation piece of art work. Look for discarded Kitchen table or dressers in the garage, attic or a yard sale. Reusing old furniture as a working desk add character to the room.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Coffee table
  • or bedroom dresser
  • Square kitchen table
  • Construction ruler
  • electric saw
  • sand paper
  • Wood stain
  • optional cut glass top
  • bracket mounts
  • glass top optional
  1. Step 1
     

    Find a table with four stable legs. Simple place a decorate pieces of fabric with a two inches hang that drapes on the floor. Cut to desired length. The fabric can be an old curtain, solid, decor color bed sheet. The leftover fabric can be framed with another photo centered in the middle of the framed to be place on the wall behind the desk or on the side wall to accent the desk dressing. Add any object for decor that have the same similar color that off match the desk dressing color. For example if the fabric is accented with black/white in it. Spray an old vase to a metallic black and add white flowers. Keep your desk clean and uncluttered. Spray paint a rock for a paper weight. Spray the rock for an example black let dry. Use duck tape cut in half to wrap around the rock. Wrap both halves around the rock with spacing in between. Spray the entire rock white let dry. Remove the tape slowly. Add to your desk dressing. Make a polka dot rock with round circle stickers follow the step from above with the spray painting procedure.

  2. Step 2
     

    Restore an old desk or kitchen table with wood stain. Use a drop cloth to cover the floor of the work area and wear gloves. There are tons of stains to choose from. First, you will need to sand the wooden table in order for the stain to take. Use sand paper with a medium grade to take off the old stain. It can be done by hand or by using an electric sander. After sanding wipe clean any access dust. Begin to paint in long stroke down the length of the table. Let dry between coats. The more coats you paint on the richer and darker the wood with become.

  3. Step 3
     

    To turn a small dresser in to a table you will have to do some work. You will need a measuring tape and a marker. Only the top drawer will be saved a long with the dresser top, which will be used for the desk top and four legs. Draw on the back of the dresser, side and the front. Step back look at the dresser and decide if these marking is correct and in preposition to a desk. Use an electric saw to cut the panel out. Reinforce the inside legs with the wood cut pieces left over using wood glue.

  4. Step 4
     

    Recycle floor coffee table. You will need to purchase four table legs with the correct mounting brackets or nail etc, at a lumber center. Make sure the legs are in proportional to the weight of the coffee table. You will need to sand and paint both the coffee table and the legs.
