Step 1
Consider letting your admin have the day off or at least a half a day off. This is probably the most rewarding gift you can give them. Either let them know ahead of time, of give them the following Friday off. It's okay, the office can survive one day.
-
Step 2
Flowers are definitely appreciated and pretty much expected by female administrative assistants. The best is to have them delivered to the office although it is okay to bring them in yourself. Just steer clear of potted mums.
-
Step 3
Lunch is good, too, but make sure you have the kind of relationship that will make for a comfortable lunch. If you barely know your admin or heaven forbid, don't get along with them, then you wouldn't want to spend an hour lunch with them. It would be as uncomfortable for them, as it is for you.
-
Step 4
Any gift that makes their life easier is great. Even though you didn't pay for it personally, you can be instrumental in getting the admin a new chair, a new upgraded computer, or have their desk moved next to a window, and it would be a gift that keeps on giving.
-
Step 5
Gifts from your own pocket are great, too. You don't have to go overboard, besides it may make your admin feel uncomfortable. Consider a Shiatsu Massage pillow, they can put on their chair at work or a elegant Cross pen and pencil set, or a silver key chain. Forget about the coffee mug and lotions, one screams, "I'm cheap" and the other says, "I couldn't be bothered."

Step 6
Cash or gift cards are probably the number one present that admins would like to receive. Admins make much less money than bosses and money can be used for anything they or their family needs. Taking a collection around the office and buy a gift certificate or just put the cash in a card that the office signed.
