Step 1
The tools needed for this job is a wrench, oil filter wrench, something to pour oil to the engine. (I am using a cup). You will also need engine oil and an oil filter.
-
Step 2
Find the oil drain plug. Once you find it, use a hex wrench to remove the drain plug. Make sure you position the drain pan so the oil could fall into it.
-
Step 3
Let the oil drain into the pan. Make sure you wipe off the oil that falls onto the exhaust pipe. It will smoke when you start the engine if not wiped off.
-
Step 4
Once the oil is drained, wipe around the oil drain opening. Wipe the drain plug and screw it back in the oil drain opening. Tighten with the hex wrench.
-
Step 5
Now let's change the oil filter. Position the oil drain pan under the oil filter. Use a oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter and let the oil drain in the oil pan. Turn the oil filter to let the oil drain out of it.
-
Step 6
Compare the new filter with the old one to ensure correct replacement. Take the new oil filter, lubricate the seal with fresh oil, and screw it into the oil filter housing. Do not tighten with the wrench, use your hand.
-
Step 7
Pour three quarts of oil into the cup and pour it into the opening on top of the engine.
-
Step 8
Now start the bike and allow the engine to circulate the oil through its components. Check the oil level and add more if you need to.
