Using a french press to make your morning cup of coffee means you'll get a perfect cup. With a french coffee press you can easily adjust the amount of water, coffee and steeping time. Unlike a coffee pot, you can closely control and change the strength of your cup of coffee. You'll also save counter space and money by using the smaller and less expensive coffee making option. Read on for how to use a french press.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • French Coffee Press
  • Ground Coffee
  1. Step 1

Because you'll be using a french press, instead of a coffee maker, you need to heat water (but not boil) in a tea pot.

  2. Step 2

While the water is boiling prepare your french coffee press by removing the filter, lid and plunger piece.

  3. Step 3

Put four tablespoons of ground coffee beans into the bottom of the press pot.

  4. Step 4

Before the water comes to a boil pour 12 ounces, or about 1.75 cups, into the french press, over the grinds. You can adjust the ratio of coffee and water to your liking, depending on how strong you like your cup of joe.

  5. Step 5

Quickly replace the lid on the french press coffee maker. Do not depress the plunger and filter yet. Keep it at the top of the press pot.

  6. Step 6

Let the coffee press work its magic for the next few minutes. For a stronger brew, wait at least 5 minutes while the coffee steeps. For a weaker cup, let the coffee steep for about two minutes.

  7. Step 7

Holding the handle of the french press with one hand, use your other hand to slowly press down the plunger until it stops. The filter will pass through the liquid separating the coffee from the grinds.

  8. Step 8

Pour the coffee from the press pot into a mug and enjoy! Only the coffee grinds will be left in the bottom of the french press.
