Are you ready to dress for the season? Whatever your budget, there are many ways that you can brighten up your wardrobe and accessories without spending too much.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • internet access
  • a positive attitude
  • patience (to compare prices!)
  • money to spend!
  1. Step 1

Consider what colors you would like to incorporate into your wardrobe. In 2009, the fashion color trends include earthy colors, vivid (but not necessarily bright) colors, and muted colors. Also, consider whether or not you want to follow the current trends ;)

  2. Step 2

Look through your closet - there are probably some items that you could incorporate with new items. The denim fashion forcast for 2009 include torn up/faded jeans, and "boyfriend" jeans. Low-rise jeans will be easy to find, as they are still in style. If you have old torn up jeans or fatigued jeans, pull them out! Cut some holes in the knees or around the legs, and wash them a couple times - you don't have to pay new clothing prices for jeans you may already have (or can modify)!

  3. Step 3
one shoulder dresses and revealing bikini

The one-shoulder style is coming back in style as well, for shirts and dresses. In-fashion dresses are popping up that look tunic-like and often are in muted colors. Stripes and patterns aren't top on the list - alot of trendy spring clothing appears simplistic, perhaps to draw more attention to accessories. You may still have some one-shoulder shirts from a few years back, when they were in style. Sheer fabrics, as well as more skin exposure are in. You can try online shopping websites for deals at nordstroms off the rack, overstock.com, amazon.com, alloy.com. If you live on the west coast or a typically warm state, you won't have to look far at local discount stores like Ross or TJ Maxx.

  4. Step 4
    fringe!

Another trend that is coming back in style is flapper-inspired dresses and dresses/skirts with fringe. The popular colors are still fairly muted, grey/silver, light blue, white and baby pink. It should be worn loosely, and the fabric should breathe and be comfy! A good place to look for cheap items with fringe would be a vintage clothing store. Lots of vintage clothing can be found on ebay.com, and wherever you are, you should be able to find some kind of vintage shop in the city.

  5. Step 5

For nights out on the town, another trend in spring dresses are jeweled and elaborate. Think 80's- just not as corny. Here would be another time to look for vintage dresses. Go to a neiman marcus or nordstrom and get some ideas for what to look for.

  6. Step 6

To make up for some more simple colors and styles, eye-popping jewelry is in this season. The bigger, the better! Shopping for these could be lots of fun - check out antique shops or little boutiques for unique items, you can get one-of-a-kind items that would be trendy cheap!

  7. Step 7

The shoes for spring 2009 follow the lead of jewelry. They are bold and attention-grabbing. High heels, strappy heels, and jeweled shoes are appearing on the runway. I don't have to be the one to tell you that shoes are often the most expensive and difficult item to shop for! Take a look online or at the mall for knock-offs. Alot of the shoes are also considered "fetish inspired." This season seems to be pretty versatile, so grab a nice strappy heel that can be interchangable. On the other hand, my spring shoe has been, and always will be, flip flops! ;)

Tips & Warnings
  • Mix and match
  • Be comfortable - you should be able to throw your shoes off and walk along the beach or in the grass, soak up the sun!
  • Stay open minded! If you've never bought used clothing before, consider giving it a try! This season has alot of past trends incorporated in it. Not only will you have a fabulous item, but it would be unique, and inexpensive.

on 9/3/2009 Great advice on how to dress for spring. I'm a blue jeans and pullover gal myself. It makes dressing a mindless event and I don't have to iron. *5
