DYE COCONUT flakes
DYE COCONUT flakes

Tinted coconut flakes are great for decorating cupcakes or cake or for sprinkling on top of other deserts. And dying the coconut is easy! And my way is the easiest... it really is!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Coconut Flakes
  • Food Color
  • Small Container or Jar with a Cover
  1. Step 1

Most people will tell you to use a plastic bag for this task but that's the wrong road to go down. Use a small container! Something like a small yogurt container or even a baby food jar will work well for small amounts of coconut. For larger amounts use a margarine tub or something similar.

  2. Step 2

Put a few drops of food color into your container BEFORE you put in the coconut. Cover the container and shake it with just the food color in it. Then open the container and add the coconut. Cover and shake again! If the coconut is not dark enough, go ahead and add a few more drops but try to put the drops on the side of the container and not directly on the coconut. Now cover and shake again. Shake, shake, shake!

  3. Step 3

If you want to flavor your coconut you can also add a drop of extract while you are adding the color. Some tasty flavors to add are almond, pineapple or even coconut flavor to make it more coconutty! You can even flavor the coconut without adding color. No matter what you do... it's yummy!
