Purchase baseball tickets like a pro with these step-by-step instructions! From hard-to-find tickets like Opening Day to infield seats at bleacher prices, this article tells you how to get a deal at the ballpark.

Things You'll Need:

  • Schedule of Baseball Games You'd Like to Attend
  • Money
  • Internet Access (optional)
  1. Step 1

First things first: figure out which game(s) you want to purchase baseball tickets for. Team-by-team schedules are available on many sports web sites, not to mention the teams' own sites.

Generally, the best deals for baseball tickets will be found for the games that aren't in the highest demand. Games on weekday evenings or in the middle of a workday are most likely to have cheap baseball tickets on offer. You'll get more bang for your buck during these 'off-peak' games.

Other tickets, like Opening Day, playoffs, or Boston baseball tickets, will come at a premium. For these games, cheap baseball tickets are nonexistent and even regularly priced baseball tickets can be hard to find, much less pay for! But keep reading for some valuable tips to find the best baseball ticket for you at the best price.

  2. Step 2
    Choose your baseball seat.

    Choose your baseball seat.

For most regular season games, you can walk up to the box office and simply purchase baseball tickets. To get a better deal, here are two proven strategies you can employ:

    * Check individual teams' web sites for discounts. Teams eager to fill empty seats will offer deals that can include parking, free or discounted concession items, or simply cheap baseball tickets.

    * Check online marketplaces and resellers. Sometimes season ticket holders or ticket brokers will be desperate to get rid of baseball tickets they won't be using. Take advantage of this situation by scanning eBay, Stub Hub, and other internet reseller web sites to see if you can get a deal that's better than what you could get from the team directly. Sometimes waiting until the last minute, when ticket brokers are at their most desperate, will let you buy baseball tickets at a terrific value. All of this can mean cheap baseball tickets for you!

  3. Step 3

If you're in the market for hard-to-find games, like Chicago baseball tickets, World Series tickets, Opening Day tickets, All-Star game tickets, or playoff tickets, there are several ways to maximize your chances of getting a great seat at a great price:

*Most teams offer a chance to buy baseball tickets to post-season games via a lottery. The deadline to enter these lotteries can vary by team, so check the website of each specific team you're interested in to make sure you sign up in time. Usually, you'll be asked to sign up for the lottery with your name and email address.

Odds are better than you think: in 2008, I personally know people who signed up and then had the opportunity to buy playoff tickets in Chicago, Los Angeles, Anaheim, and Tampa Bay -- including World Series tickets! All-Star game tickets and Opening Day tickets are often available via similar lottery systems.

  4. Step 4

*The early bird gets the worm. Most teams have specific dates and times at which certain high-demand tickets will go on sale. If you're able to get to a computer or visit the box office as soon as the tickets are on sale, you'll have a good chance to buy baseball tickets to all the games you're looking for.

*Ask around. You probably know someone -- or someone who knows someone -- who has season tickets to sell because they can't make it to every game. Sometimes, this can even include games in high demand. If you've got your heart set on attending a game that you know will be sold out, ask around and let people know that you are willing and able to buy baseball tickets from them. Often, season ticket holders would rather sell the baseball tickets to someone they know -- sometimes at a discount! -- rather than bother trying to resell them.

*Check online marketplaces and resellers. They will probably let you buy baseball tickets for the game(s) you want -- at a price.

Tips & Warnings
  • Sign up to your favorite team's newsletter. They often send emails advertising special offers to buy baseball tickets at a discount.
  • Be sure to do due diligence when purchasing baseball tickets from resellers. While many resellers are legitimate, there are scam artists out there. Cheap baseball tickets are no deal if they're not the genuine article!
