  1. Step 1

The decision to home school is an important one and should not be taken lightly. After all we all want our children to be smart and happy. He is some important question that should be asked of yourself and family. Keep in mind that if your child is old enough they may want impute too. Discuss with them what their concerns are in regards to be school at home. If the child is already in public school there may be a lot.

  2. Step 2

Q: What is required for you to home school?
Some states have rules, regulations and laws that need to be followed. You can find this information usually thru the state department of education for your state or you local school. You can also get in touch with a home school group in your area.

  3. Step 3

Q: Why do you want to home school?
This should not be for selfish reasons but for reasons that are clearer. Some of these reasons might be because of religious beliefs, quality of education in your area, need of the child.

  4. Step 4

Q: Who will be responsible for teaching the child?
This may be the hardest question to because on economic times many families need to have tow incomes and can affect the ability to home school. This leads to the next question

  5. Step 5

Q: When and where will the teaching take place?
With so many choices in curriculum to pick form and the internet parents have wide range of possibilities. Some parents even take their children to work with them. The child may have their own desk doing their own school work in the same office.

  6. Step 6

Q What will the cost be to the family in time, money and relationship?
Some curriculums are free to thousands of dollars. The idea here is to pick what best for the child learning style. Don’t forget to put money aside for tutors and field trips. Some children need more attention then others. You will have to find the time to give your undivided attention. Relationships with each other can be affected by this. For some it will make them closer and for other drive them apart. There is nothing more stressful to a child/ parent relationship when you teach the child something and you know they have it. But just can’t apply it.

Remember you can only make the best choices for you child and you, so make it for the right reason.
