April 15th is almost upon us! That means our IRS taxes are due. There are several ways to pay our federal taxes. We can pay them in person, at our local IRS office. Or we can mail the IRS payment by snail mail. However, using technology to make the 11:59 pm deadline may be worth considering. Keep reading to find out how to pay the IRS online or by phone.

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet Connection
  • Or Telephone
  • IRS Tax Payment Information
  • Debit Card or Credit Card
  1. Step 1

    The IRS has partnered with two companies who can process federal tax payments. They are www. OfficialPayments.com and www.Pay1040.com. You can pay online with a debit card or credit card.

    Or you can pay by phone with these companies. The phone number for OfficialPayments is 1-800-2PAYTAX. And you can reach Pay1040 by phone at 888-PAY-1040.

    One advantage of paying online or by phone is having a written confirmation or tracking number for your IRS tax payment.

    A disadvantage of using OfficialPayments or Pay1040 is that you will be charged a fee to use their service. The convenience fee is calculated according to the tax payment amount. However, you can determine the cost of the convenience fee before submitting your payment. Note: If you are paying business taxes, the convenience fee is tax deductible.

  • Keep your tax payment receipt with your tax records.
