Doctor up a Yellow Cake Mix
Doctor up a Yellow Cake Mix

Cake mixes make your life easier - you don't have to measure as many ingredients as you would if you were baking a cake from scratch. But add just a bit to a yellow cake mix and you'll have a cake with much more flavor.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yellow Cake Mix
  • Orange extract
  • Orange Marmalade
  • Grated orange peel
  1. Step 1

Start by making the yellow cake mix according to the directions on the package. The one I used called for a stick of softened butter, water and 3 eggs.

  2. Step 2

Grate 2 teaspoons of orange peel, and add that to the cake mix.

  3. Step 3

Fill the cap of orange extract twice and add that to the cake mix. Bake the cake (or cupcakes) according to the directions on the package.

  4. Step 4

That's it! This cake will have a great orange flavor. To finish it off, try making a frosting with 2 sticks of softened butter, 6 tablespoons of orange juice, and 4 and 1/2 cups of confectioners sugar. I sometimes also sprinkle this cake with coconut, and you can also use orange marmalade between the layers if you've made a layer cake. Soften the marmalade in the microwave for a few seconds if you've had it in the refrigerator to make it easier to spread.
